Where/How Is It Used?
Virtopsy equipment is VERY expensive ~ MRI machines cost millions dollars and CT machines are at least a half million dollars. Therefore most 3rd world countries can not afford them. The following are some countries that DO use Virtopsy technologies;
Virtopsy is used globally in countries that can afford them, and have an important use for them. Virtopsy was first created/innovated in Berns, Switzerland in 2010. Since then, many institutions and universities, as well as Forensics Labs have installed this new technology. It is a very recent technology, but it is extremely expensive, therefore only a very small percentage of the world is exposed to Virtopsy. It is usually used for very complicated tasks, that can not otherwise be done without ruining the physical evidence. For example, to locate all of the bullet shards from a victim's arm, the pathologists would have to sever the arm, and search for the bullet fragments. But with Virtopsy the scanning can easily detect the exact locations of the pieces, and they can be removed for examination easily, and efficiently.

- Australia - Melbourne
- Europe - Denmark - Institute of Forensic Medicine, University of Southern Denmark
- United States - State of Maryland Medical Examiner ~There are quite a few other countries that have Virtopsy, but these are just a few of them.
