Forensic Pathology, also known as Forensics, is the branch of medical science that uses medical knowledge for legal purposes. They use the crime scene to investigate the DNA, fingerprints, and autopsy reports. Pathologists also study the body of the victim, and use their knowledge to track down the culprits of many crimes (most commonly murder, or having to do with a dead body).
Forensic pathologists are also frequently asked to confirm the identity of the body in the crime. The injury, or disease that directly results in/initiates a series of events that lead to a person's death, such as a bullet wound to the head, stab wounds, strangulation, and myocardial infractions (also known as heart attacks), etc. The "manner of death," and the circumstances surrounding the cause of death, which in most jurisdictions include; homicide, accidental, natural, suicide, and undetermined.These are just some of the tasks of a Forensic Pathologist.
